How To Make Margaritas
All you have to do is mention the word “margarita” and everyone’s thoughts turn to fun—beaches, bars, boats, guitars and tiki bars. And maybe a little Jimmy Buffett playing in the background.
It’s no wonder the margarita is the most popular cocktail in America… and why so many people want to know how to make margaritas. But it takes more than a great frozen margarita recipe to whip up the perfect frozen concoction. So if you’re interesting in learning how to make margaritas—great margaritas—read on!
Ingredients
Obviously a great margarita starts with the right ingredients (or margarita mix). The classic margarita contains tequila, of course, lime juice (preferably fresh, and even better, from Key limes), Triple Sec or the pricier Cointreau (both orange-flavored liqueurs) and lots of ice.
And of course, the salt! Margaritas are traditionally served in a glass with a salted rim.
While you might think the quality of the tequila is important, it is really a matter of personal taste. Some prefer the milder, subtle taste of more expensive pure agave tequila, while others enjoy the kick the drink gets from a lower-quality white tequila. (“Bite from white,” as they say!)
And of course, the tequila isn’t the only thing you have to decide when learning how to make margaritas. There are dozens of variations, and you can easily discover your favorite regular or frozen margarita recipe right here on the Internet. Or if you’re not so ambitious, just pick up a great margarita mix. There are plenty!
The Margarita Machine
But when you’re learning how to make margaritas, and especially frozen margarita recipes, it’s important to note that just as important as the right margarita recipe, is the margarita machine you make it in.
Nothing is more disappointing than a poorly frapped margarita (or any other frozen drink, for that matter). Nobody likes big chunks of ice in their frozen concoction, or a drink that is too watery or too coarse or just not “right.”
You’ve probably seen the commercial margarita machine that is in every beachside bar in the world. But did you know there are home models, as well? And they are amazing! In fact, there’s one line of margarita machine straight from Margaritaville itself—the Frozen Concoction Maker!
Of course, you can also use the trusty old blender. Just make sure it’s of good quality. The best blenders for frozen drinks have plenty of power and are able to blend your frozen margarita recipe to perfection! So be sure you have the right equipment.
The Margarita Glass
It may seem like a small thing, but the right margarita glasses can make all the difference. Of course margaritas can be (and are) served in a variety of different types of glasses. And you might have your favorite. But the quintessential margarita glasses are reminiscent of a champagne glass, with a long stem, but somewhat larger, and with much larger rim (to accommodate all that salt).
The Atmosphere
We said there was more to learning how to make margaritas then just the drink itself. Don’t forget to set the stage, for yourself and your guests. The right music. Maybe a Hawaiian shirt or a grass skirt. Hey, you can even get your own tiki hut bar for your backyard.
Remember, the margarita is more than a cocktail. It’s a celebration! Now… go fire up that blender!
